I honestly don't think its just the show that led to their demise. Watching the way Kate treated Jon, it was going to end eventually. The show just sped it up, because Jon realized a lot quicker who Kate really was. I don't think blogging your family is in itself bad, but its definitely in how you do it. Moderation in all things. In the beginning, when they had like 6-10 episodes a season--that's enough. Shooting every day is beyond excessive, though.
